NO More Heart Disease By: Dr. Louis J. Ignarro NO More Heart Disease begins with a brief recounting of the life of Nobel Prize winner Dr. Louis J. Ignarro from his childhood chemistry experiments to the day he found out he became the co-winner of the Nobel Prize along with Dr. Robert F. Furchgott. For years, scientists searched for Endothelial Derived Relaxation Factor (EDRF) the mysterious substance responsible for signaling blood vessels to "relax" and dilate. It was Furchgott's pioneering work in discovering this signaling mechanism he named EDRF that began the search. The book gets its curious capitalization of the word "NO" from "Nitric Oxide" the substance the two doctors co-discovered as being the elusive EDRF. Furchgott and Ignarro certainly deserved the Nobel Prize for their groundbreaking discovery. Nitric Oxide (NO) is a powerful agent for fighting heart disease. Unfortunately, save for this single observation and recommendation (one this reviewer heartily agrees could help many heart disease sufferers) the rest of the book is nothing more than an unimaginative rehash of basic heart disease causes and mechanisms and age-old diet and supplement recommendations.
